Cristi Puiu is an acclaimed Romanian film director, scriptwriter and actor. He was born in 1967 in Bucharest. He graduated from Ecole Superieure d'Arts Visuels in Geneva (1996). Cristi Puiu`s debut as a director was in 2001 with the low budget film Stuff and Dough (Marfa şi Banii). The film competed in the Quinzaines des Realisateurs section of the Cannes Film Festival. In 2004 his short film, Cigarettes and Coffee (Un cartuş de Kent şi un pachet de cafea) won the Golden Bear for best short film at Berlinale. His second feature film, The Death of Mr. Lăzărescu (Moartea domnului Lăzărescu) (2005) won the Prix Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival and numerous awards at other international film festivals. Aurora (2010) was his third feature film. |
