Bio
Hristo Shopov was born in 1964 in Sofia. He is the son of the famous Bulgarian actor Naum Shopov. In 1987 he graduates in Theatre Acting from the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in. His first film part is in the film Breathe, Little Man (1981). The role of the rebel Ivan from Ivan Andonovs Yesterday (1988) brings him popularity and he quickly becomes one of the stars of Bulgarian cinema. He then plays the leading parts in Margarit and Margarita (1989) by Nikolay Volev, Indian Games (1990) by Ivan Andonov, The Love Summer of a Schlep (1990) by Luydmil Todorov. In the following years when few Bulgarian films are being made, Hristo Shopov acts mainly in foreign films. One of his most notable parts is as Pontius Pilate in Mel Gibsons The Passion of the Christ. He has acted in over thirty foreign films in which he played against actors such as Rutger Hauer and Val Kilmer.
