Marian Tutui is a graduate of the University of Bucharest (Romanian and Bulgarian Philology). In 2007 he defended his Ph.D. on Balkan cinema at UNATC (Romanian Academy of Theatre and Cinema). Since 1993 he is researcher and since 1995 manager of the Romanian Cinematheque. He is a member of FIPRESCI (2008) and of juries for film festivals. Also author of 4 scripts for documentary films for television broadcasted in Romania, Greece, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Albania. He is also author of four books on cinema: A Short History of Romanian Cinema (2005, 2011, in Romanian and English), Manakia Bros or the Image of the Balkans (2005, 2009 in Romanian and English) and Orient Express. Romanian and Balkan Cinema (2008, 2011 in Romanian and English, awarded with Prize of the Romanian Film Critics Association). Since 1995 he has collaborated with film criticism to magazines in Romania, USA, Great Britain, Moldova, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Hungary, Russia and Bulgaria.
