He completed his training as a musician and composer, among other things, by the Munich Guitar Institute, at the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles and the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles). Since then, he has already worked on numerous personal projects. He was music director from 1989 to 1991 at the Munich Studio Theater, in 1994 made his first string quartet, and in 1997 comosed the first own opera "Nyx" section. There followed several theater music for the show Castle in Munich and the Munich National Theatre. Since 1997, Gerd Baumann was also producer of Konstantin Wecker and played guitar in one band. He also plays as a guitarist and trumpeter in the program-music group "Secret Revue" and, together with Jens Fischer Rodrian as a guitar duo "Paradoz". In addition to several film scores for television Baumann composed the music for the movie From the depths of space by Gil Mehmert , for which he was nominated for the German Film Prize in 2005. In 2007 he compose the music for He who dies earlier, longer dead by Marcus H. Rose Mueller nominated again.
